Naked Dancing: Lagos shuts Shakara Strip club, 27 churches
August 26, 2015 – It is time up for club houses where prostitutes converge in the wee hours of the night, strip naked and dance before their male hosts, shoving and robbing their boobs and other sensitive parts of their body against that of their admirers as a form of entertainment.
But it appears that the days of this unwholesome acts are numbered, following the decision of the Lagos state government to storm and prevent these clubs from operation.
One of such clubs, Shakara club where whores entertain male guests was shut down today for noise pollution and for illegal operation. Shakara Strip Club operates at Thomas Salako Street, Ogba, Lagos.
General Manager, Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency(LASEPA) , Engr. Adebola Shabi said the popular strip club would never be reopened again, adding that all his directives to control noise pollution in the last two years have never been complied with.
“The noise coming from Shakara is more than 100 decibel. And anyone exposed to 115 decibel of noise for about six hours will automatically go deaf. That is the kind of risk Shakara poses to the area,” he said .
Also shut are Mopson Pharmaceuticals Industry and 27 religious houses for noise pollution and other environmental related offences.
Mopson pharmaceuticals, located on Osolo Way and Dura Products Industries Nigeria Limited on Sanni Olabode Street, in Abule Egba were shut for environmental pollution for discharging untreated waste water (effluent) into the environment.
LASEPA official who spoke on condition of anonymity said it was mandatory that the waste water get treated before it is discharged into the environment, especially in the interest of public health.
“As it is, the waste water (effluent) is toxic and will kill all living organisms in the Lagoon. All the bore holes around are at risk and over time will lead to cancer in human beings. We have served them several notices on the need for Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) for which they fail to comply,” he said.
On Ayilara Street, Surulere, two churches: The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), God Royal Sanctuary, Lagos Province 3, Zone 15, Area 48 and another on its opposite, Tower of Praise Ministries International Praise Centre were shut over noise pollution.
Also among the religious centres is: Jesus Our Lord Divine Catholic Prayer Ministry, on 11 Anuoluwapo Street, Ilasamaja, where prayer session was ongoing at about 11am.
Except for the pastor, all the worshipers are pregnant women, nursing mothers and their children. The residents complained over noise pollution and lack of clarity on activities carried out at the centre.
He argued that Ogba being a mixed residential and industrial area, should have a decibel not exceeding 55 at night. The GM added that the closure of 22 religious houses brings the number to 55 that had been sanctioned in the last three weeks.
He said sanctioned churches would begin to pay fines ranging from N50,000 to N100,000 before they are reopened. He said that the affected industries were shut for water pollution.
“I did a research on three pharmaceutical companies in this state last year, and I found that their waste water contain heavy metals, which is very dangerous to the environment. By the time it is bio-accumulate in the fatty tissues of animals, it will bio-magnify into human beings and that is a source of cancer,” he said.
