NUJ suspends further picketing of THISDAY Newspapers
July 10, 2015 – The Nigerian Union of Journalist(NUJ) has suspended further picketing of THISDAY Newspaper to enable it review developments following promise by management to clear the arrears.
The union had picketed the newspaper for three days, forcing management to pay three months arrea across board and promised to pay the remaining six months later. NUJ opted to picket the newspaper for owing salary arrears in excess of 9 months.
“Following the payment of 3 months salary arrears across board for the Staff members of ThisDay on Thursday (09/07/2015) evening, the NUJ has decided to suspend the 3-day old industrial action at the company premises at 35, Creek Road, Apapa, Lagos”, the union said in a statement signed by Secretary, Abimbola Oyetunde.

The statement added that the suspension is to enable the union review the ongoing process and monitor the fulfilment of THISDAY management’s pending promises on the outstanding 6 months salary arrears and other identified issues.
“We will keep you posted about the ongoing process, as events unfold. Please note that the strike has not been called off, only suspended for now
