June 17, 2015 – Residents of Mushin, Lagos State yesterday marched on the Lagos State House of Assembly in large numbers, protesting what they called incessant killing in Mushin by armed gangs.

The protesters who were armed with various placards such as “Gov. Ambode, we need your protection, Enough of these killings in Jibowu community, Save our innocent children” among others said they have been pushed to the wall by incessant killing in the area.

Speaking on the development, Mr. Abiodun Leshi, who led others during the protest revealed how members of the gang cut off the head of a resident and tossed it here and there in a manner akin to playing football on the street in Mushin.

Leshi stated that the menace is being experienced in areas such as Taniolodo, Lawani, Ojelawe and others, adding that the people living in these areas are having sleepless nights over the issue.

“We have been facing incessant killings of our people. One Tunde was beheaded and they used his head to play football. Another resident, Sodiq was killed last Friday after Jumat service.

“One Adeolu was also killed recently, we have always been living in fear in the area and we cannot sleep with our two eyes closed, but we felt we should see you to seek a permanent solution to the problem,” he said.

Leshi said further that some of the residents of the area have relocated to Ikorodu area out of fear, while some have developed hypertension and some have died in the process, and therefore called for the support of the lawmakers over the issue.

Responding, the Deputy Speaker of the House, Wasiu Sanni Eshinlokun, who led the lawmakers to attend to the protesters, said that the House shared the concern of the people and expressed happiness that they passed their complaints to the appropriate quarters.

He told the protesters that the issue was not peculiar to them as he said that similar incidents occur in his constituency in Lagos Island.

“The people perpetuating this evil live amongst you. It happened in my area, especially during the last elections. Let us have the names and addresses of the hoodlums. We will pass the message to the appropriate quarters,” he said and appealed to the protesters to maintain peace.
