Traffic Chaos Imminent as Lagos Carnival Holds

May 8, 2015 – Lagos Island will experience traffic chaos on Saturday when the Lagos carnival will hold at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS).

Adjourning streets leading to TBS which will be the route of the carnival train are to be closed to traffic while traffic will be diverted into other areas.

“Traffic diversions are expected  around the TBS, venue of the carnival, and other carnival routes especially in Victoria Island and Ikoyi areas  from 8am to 6pm”, Commissioner for Transportation, Comrade Kayode Opeifa has said.

The affected roads are Burdillion Rd, Falomo Round About, Awolowo rd, Onikan Round About, King George V road, Turton Street, Lewis street, Bamgbose Street, Campos square, Joseph street, Catholic Mission-street, King’s College, J K Randle Rd, TBS main bowl.

Guests with invitation cards  are expected to park at any of these designated parks along Inner Marina road; NPA Car Park, Sterling Bank Car Park, CONOIL Car Park, Shell Car Park, Onikan Stadium Car Park while guest without invitation Cards to make use of Car Parks opposite UBA Building.

The commissioner said there will be free shuttle buses to convey guests to TBS and encouraged people to park in Ikoyi & watch the Carnival procession from Awolowo road, Ikoyi.

“LAGBUS will provide limited free bus shuttle services for members of the public from 9.30am on (Saturday) from the following locations to CMS and Obalende using specially designated buses. Berger, Mile 12, Oshodi, Ajah and Festac town.
