May 2, 2015 – Ijaw professionals in the Diaspora have cried out against what it called a conspiracy to destroy Ijaw cause through deliberate attempt to pull down it leaders, following the loss of President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 general elections.

Rising from an extraordinary congress at Atlanta Georgia, the group resolved to sensitise Ijaw people of plot to further undermine Ijaw interest by working against Governor Serieke Dickson of Bayelsa State, the way they worked against return of President Jonathan to Aso Rock.

In a statement, General Secretary Akpoebi Okrowanta of the group lamented the loss of the Presidency by Jonathan adding that Jonathan’s defeat was avoidable were the President not betrayed by fellow Ijaws he placed trust on.

The group warned that such political miscalculation could repeat itself unless the Ijaws became wary of making similar mistakes by not pulling down the remaining leaders left to fill the big vacuum existing today.

The group was particularly concerned about attempts to destroy the stability of the only Ijaw State for narrow political reasons adding that any attempt to disregard the larger interest of Ijawland in the new dispensation will quickly erase the giant strides already recorded by the race especially in Bayelsa State.

To this end the group appealed to politicians to always consider what their actions will do to the overall Ijaw cause and subordinate their narrow political interests.

The group called on Ijaw leaders to work in synergy with others and punish offenders by exposing publicly their divisive activities.

So far, the group has set up a 5-man committee to independently investigate allegations against prominent Ijaw leaders and draw up a code of conduct for leaders.

The group believes that the Ijaw race must not have a leadership vacuum but that the legacy the outgoing President should leave for the Ijaw cause was to strengthen coming leaders such as Governor Dickson to play a national role to mitigate the collapse of the Ijaw cause.
