Ikuforiji Begs Lagosians for Forgiveness

 May 22, 2015 – Out-going Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly,  Hon. Adeyemi Ikuforiji has apologised to residents of Lagos, seeking their forgiveness for whatever wrongs he may have committed during his 10 year reign as Speaker.

He said that his utterances and body language may have offended many but that they are part of the exigencies of office.

The Speaker who was speaking at the Quarterly Interaction & Long Service Award ceremony that took place at Lateef Jakande Auditorium said that alot of challenges are associated with the office but that anybody that has the privilege of being the Speaker will have to leverage on his achievements.

The struggle for the next Speaker of the state ass May 22, 2015 -embly has generated controversy over a speculation that the National Leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has anointed a particular candidate.

He acknowledged that the APC leaders and the House leadership did not envisage the current challenges they are undergoing in choosing the next speaker.

He pointed out that all the returning aspirants are his close ally, adding that whoever emerges as the next speaker would deliver.

“The speaker that will succeed me should be less egocentric, it should be a team player and has the interest of taking the legislative House to a higher level.”

He added that many of those contending for the seat are only thinking about the glamour associated with the office, saying however that the challenges attached to it are numerous.

“I look at Abiru, Obasa is my right hand man and other seven who are interested in the seat, I know most of them think of the glamour, they don’t know the challenges that accompany it when they are chosen to occupy the position.”

In his remark, the Deputy Speaker, Taiwo Kolawole went emotional while expressing his appreciation to members of staff who showed their solidarity after the outcome of the last elections.

According to him, “so many people said, ‘he is behaving as if he didn’t feel the loss of the election,’ as for me the end is better than the beginning.”

The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Speaker, Musibau Taiwo Kolawole, the Deputy Whip, Rotimi Abiru, the Chairman House Committee on Public Accounts (State), Bolaji Yusuf Ayinla, Chairman Lagos State House of Assembly Service Commission (LAHASCOM), Wale Mogaji,, the Clerk, Ganiyu Abiru and staff.
