May, 8, 2015 – Not less than 162 people were arrested by the Lagos State Film and Video Censors Board (LASFVCB) in the last one year.

Executive Secretary, LASFVCB, Mr. Dele Balogun made the revelation while speaking at the annual ministerial press briefing in Lagos.

He said that 98 of those arrested were prosecuted and sentenced to varying terms of imprisonments, from one month to six months, while others were fined.

He said that the board also distributed demand notices to defaulting cinema houses in the state and that the effort yielded positive results.

On proposed Film City in Badagry, he said the state government is already into discussion with interested investors who are willing to develop it on Public Private Partnership (PPP).

He said the state government has commenced issuance of Filming Permit and that the permits are issued prior to shooting with details about location, date, time, equipment, personnel, special effects, actions and stunts.

“The practice is worldwide and it is done especially where the shooting has the potential to interrupt traffic on municipal roads, interrupt pedestrians on sidewalks, require wires or cables running across or over sidewalks or municipal road, require the use of generators, tripods, or dollys on sidewalks or municipal roads and generate noise and air pollution” he said.

Balogun said the agency issued 110 filming permit during the period under review.
