Lagos Delivers 10,000 Houses in Eight Years
April 28, 2015 – The Lagos State Government has said that it delivered a total of 10,000 houses in the last eight year.
Commissioner for Housing, Mr. Bosun Jeje who made the revelation in Lagos said the houses were delivered under the Lagos Homes Ownership Scheme (LAGOSHOMS).
He said that 603 people who won houses during the monthly draws have received keys to their houses and are currently living comfortably in the homes.
He said that the ministry successfully implemented budget approved for it in 2014 and that it achieved 81.25 percent of its recurrent budget and 99.13 percent of its capital budget.
He said that the ministry also exceeded its revenue target by 176.13 percent.
He said that the ministry received 21 applications for refund of deposits on money paid for the purchase of houses in the LAGOSHOMS.
He said that 46 petitions were processed and five applications approved.
On complains about cost of the homes, the commissioner said mortgage homes are not for everybody but that they are meant for those who can afford it.
He said the LAGOSHOMS is patterned in such a way that individuals will be able to request for houses based on income and that the website is interactive, able to advised visitors on housing schemes that are most suitable for their income.
He said that it is not true that the Lagos Tenancy Law is dead, adding that the law cannot be enforced in a vacuum. According to him, it is only when tenants report offending landlords that the law will take its course.
He appealed to residents not to be afraid to report offensive landlords to the Lagos State Government, adding that reporting will not make them to lose the disputed house.
