April 25, 2015 – Nepal, India, was today thrown into deep mourning following a powerful earthquake that shook the area, leaving over 1,100 people dead.
India Earthquake: Death Toll Now 1,170

The earthquake brought in its wake an avalanche on Mount Everest which toppled a 19th-century tower in India’s capital city Kathmandu.
The earthquake is one of the largest in history, with a magnitude 7.9 on the Richter scale.
So far, police authority say the death toll in Nepal alone had reached 1,170. Thirty- six other bodies were reported in northern India, 12 in Chinese Tibet and four in Bangladesh.
Speaking on the quake, an Indian tourist, Mr. Devyani Pant who was in a coffee shop in the capital said the tables started trembling and that paintings on the wall started falling on the ground.
“I screamed and rushed outside,” she told Reuters by telephone from the capital, where at least 300 people died. We are now collecting bodies and rushing the injured to the ambulance. We are being forced to pile several bodies one above the other to fit them in, ” he said.
