March 20, 2015 – The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has accused the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola of lying that President Goodluck Jonathan was frustrating actualization of the Lekki Deep Seaport Project.
Fashola Lied on Lekki Deep Seaport – NPA
Managing Director of the NPA, Mr. Habibu Abdullahi made the revelation when he paid a courtesy call to the Managing Director of the Lekki Deep Seaport in the Lekki Free Trade Zone, Lagos.
Abdullahi said the statement credited to the governor that Jonathan was frustrating the realization of the project was untrue adding that the NPA is the regulator and equity partner in the Lekki Deep Seaport Project.
He said that the equity contribution of the NPA is $18 million and that the Federal Government through the NPA has since last year paid N1billion and that it is making arrangement to pay the remaining part before the end of the year.
He said that he will not say anything more on it since the budget is still in the Senate. He said that the FG is committed to the Lekki Deep Seaport Project since it will impact positively on the economy of Lagos and Nigeria adding that the project will make Nigeria the economic hub of Africa.
While responding, MD of the Lekki Deep Seaport, Mrs. Harriet Asquani said Lagos State Government has fully paid its equity contribution of the project and that the FG is paying its own contribution.
