Policemen in Delta State battle with robbery suspect

January 3, 2015 – Residents of Ajao Estate and Mafoluku have raised alarm over cases of armed robbery along the Murtala Mohammed International Airport Road,especially under the bridge adjacent the DHL office.

They called on the Nigerian Police to wake up to its responsibility and ensure the safety of lives and properties of residents in the area.

We were told that the robberies usually takes place at night, adding that they block the road with logs of wood and used tires thereby forcing unsuspecting motorists to apply their brakes suddenly.

Some residents who spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal attacks expressed shock that such a trend could go unchecked for so long even after series of reports have been made to the police.

A victim of the robberies, Mr. Segun Odunaike who agreed to speak with our correspondent challenged the police to bring the culprits to book and clear itself of complicity in the robberies.

Speaking on the issue Police Public Relations Officer of the Lagos state Command, Mr. Kenneth Nwosu said police patrol will be intensified in the area. He appealed to residents to ensure they report such incident to the nearest police station adding that police can only investigate crimes they know about.
