January 12, 2015 – President Goodluck Jonathan has said that his administration has made it possible for health institutions to carry out open heart surgery and kidney transplant in university teaching hospitals in Nigeria.
Open Heart Surgery, Kidney Transplant Now Possible in Teaching Hospital – Jonathan
Jonathan who was speaking at a rally in Ibadan said that prior to his administration it was not possible for Nigerians in need of open heart surgery and kidney transplants to get treatment in Nigeria except to travel abroad.
He said the University of Lagos, (UNILAG) currently does both open heart surgery and kidney transplant. He said University of Ibadan and University of Benin have also successfully carried out open heart surgeries adding the University of Benin was in the process of carrying out research in stem cell adding that but for environmental rights activists the research would have advanced with far-reaching testimony for Nigeria.
He said his administration has invested in education more than any other government adding that it was not just about increasing numbers but also quality which he said is reflected in the surgical operations across teaching hospitals.
He said every Nigerian child must have education but that for education he would not be where he is. “That is why I want every Nigerian youth to be given the Goodluck opportunity”, he said.
He warned the youths against voting for people whom he said had opportunity but did not do what they are promising Nigerians.
“People are going around deceiving you that they will do things they had opportunity to do which they did not do. I have promised what I can do; this is an IT age, the PDP administration means well for this country, only the PDP administration that can move Nigeria to the next level. I love you. I will work hard to improve the quality of our lives”, he promised.
He said that his achievements are all there on the internet for Nigerians to see.
“This government has established more tertiary education than any other government, that is why I said every Nigerian child should have that Goodluck opportunity. Was here because of education, I will not build prison for you, I will build school for you”, he said.
