January 14, 2015 – A lawmaker in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Bisi Yusuf has called on Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Prof. Attahiru Jega to conduct credible election in February elections for his name to be written in gold.

Yusuff representing APC-Alimosho I stated that for the electoral chairman to conduct credible, free and fair election, he must create enabling process to collect the Permanent Voters Card (PVC) in order not to disenfranchise the electorate.

“We have enlighten our constituents to collect their PVCs, for them to exercise their franchise during the election. So, Jega’s name will be written in gold in Nigeria if he conducts credible, free and fair election during the general elections.

“The electoral commission should endeavour to create avenue through which eligible voters would have free access to the PVCs before the elections.

“The development will allow people to have confidence in Jega and the electoral body at large,” Yusuf said.

The lawmaker also advised the electoral commission to embark in serious preparation towards the election by putting all the logistics in place, planning and staff training.
He also urged INEC to embark on effective public sensitisation and guidance through which the electorate would be thought on voting process and rules.

Yusuff said that though All Progressives Congress (APC) had embarked on public enlightenment on how people would collect their PVCs in their various Local Government Council Areas, yet all eyes are on Jega, they want to see how he will conduct the election.

“He should not compromise his integrity because people are watching him including the international organisations,” the lawmaker cautioned.

Yusuf who is the Chairman House Committee on Transportation, Commerce and Industry appealed to INEC to yield to President Goodluck Jonathan’s order by ensuring all eligible voters acquire their PVCs for the elections.

It would be recalled that President Jonathan, had directed INEC chairman to ensure that all registered voters get their Permanent Voter Cards before the general elections in February.
