January 9, 2015 – The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola has said that he will do better as Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) than Professor Attahiru Jega.

Fashola who was speaking on challenges confronting INEC in the distribution of Permanent Voter Card (PVC) said that the job of INEC is about planning and doing a good job.
“The real head of INEC should be a logistician”, he said adding that people who have successfully run traffic control and the banks will do better.
“It is not about professing, not about judiciary, it is about logistics”, he said.
Fashola who also spoke about his political future said he will want to rest and think about something else when he leaves office.
“I will remain in politics. I just want to take a back seat. It has been 12 years. I want to stand back a little and catch my breath”, he said.
Fashola explained that his government has been trying to revamp all the fire hydrants in the state adding that till date about 400 have been reactivated as part of effort to confront fire outbreaks in Lagos state. He said that any road work that is awarded now must have fire hydrant.
On proposed gulf course at Olusosun dumpsite, the governor said that government was yet to make a decision on the issue adding that all over the world land fill sites don’t exist forever. He said that such a site can only accommodate buildings after heavy pilling.
He said Gulf Course is more suitable since it is not heavy more so when it has all the nutrients needed for greening.
In the meantime, he said that Lagos State is currently extracting methane gas, bottling and selling them to interested buyers. He said the state government is also making briquettes from waste generated from the dumpsite.
