January 8, 2015 – President Goodluck Jonathan said today in Lagos that leader of Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), Mr. Henry Okah who is serving jail term in South Africa was hired by some disgruntled elements to assassinate him.

Jonathan who was speaking at the flag-off Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign in Lagos said that it was wrong for people to write in the papers that MEND has dumped him when the leader who was hired to assassinate him is in jail.

“How can somebody hired to assassinate me be for me?”, he asked adding that somebody hired to assassinate him has endorsed the All Progressive Congress(APC) and called on Nigerians to count him out.

He said that intelligence reports in South Africa and Nigeria has revealed that Okah was hired to assassinate him.

Jonathan called on Nigerian youths to ask candidate of the APC, General Muhammadu Buhari if he burrowed guns to fight any war and queried the rationale while the leadership of Buhari and others who have ruled Nigeria failed to equip the army despite billions budgeted for defence.

“Ask them what they did with the money. they refused to buy arms for the army, they refused to buy attack helicopters”, he said. The president who called on Nigerians to vote for the future of Nigeria by voting the PDP said they should withhold their votes from people who are half dead.

He said he has been tackling corruption and that soon the relevant agencies will brief Nigerians on their accomplishment. He said his government has been able to end corruption in agriculture through the development of ICT platform known as E-wallet.

He said that you do not fight corruption by witch-hunting people and bundling them into jail on the basis of suspicion adding that he believes in the rule of law. He said he means well for the prosperity of Nigerians and that he has no enemy to fight.

He said that a vote for the PDP will liberate Nigerians. He said that for the first time, Egbin power station which was abandoned since 2005 has been privatized for the first time adding that there light in the tunnel. He said that for the first time it is now possible for Nigerians to ride on rail from Lagos to Kano, Port Harcourt to Enugu and Lagos to Ibadan.
