January 31, 2015 – The Lagos State Governor Mr. Babatunde Fashola has lamented decision of the Police Service Commission to post out Commander of Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Mr. Hakeem Odumosu.

Odumosu was posted out of Lagos to the north. Fashola who was speaking at an occasion to mark his 2,800 days in office equally lamented the posting out of AIG Zone 2, Umaru Abubakar.

Abubakar was posted to the Directorate of Studies and replaced with AIG, Mbu Joseph Mbu.

Fashola said specifically that Odumosu understood the crime architecture of Lagos State and was actually involved in the building of the crime fighting outfit which has mitigated the level of crime in the state.

Fashola said the posting out of the two men was not an exercise of love for Lagos State.

He said his administration has in the last 2, 800 days embarked on life defining policies and legislations, adding that in December 1, 2014, he signed an Executive Order establishing a Sex Offenders Register and made reporting of sexual offences a compulsory matter in Lagos.

He said the development is aimed at “deterring sex offenders who now know that the state will keep record of their action. He said this will protect victims of sexual offences who are mainly women.

“On the same day, I signed the bill establishing the Lagos State Infrastructure Asset Management Agency into law. For many years we have decried the lack of a maintenance culture in our society without taking concrete action to address it. For our party and our government, a lack of maintenance was not a problem. It was a huge opportunity to create jobs, take young people out of unemployment and invest them with the power to say every morning – I am going to work”, the governor said.

According to him, all maintenance contracts will be classified under recurrent but that the difference is that it is a recurrent expenditure that creates jobs.

“This year alone, we will be issuing over 600 contracts, ranging from N2 million to N5 million for the maintenance of our secondary schools as a start to small contractors and artisans and businesses”, he said.

He explained that graduates of the State’s Technical Colleges have been trained on how to set up their small companies to benefit from the process adding that the state’s pensioners also felt the impact of the budget.

“On the 30th of December 2014, we held our 15th bond presentation programme and paid out N1.5 billion to 243 retirees”, he said.
