AIRASIA: Divers Retrieve Black Box, Second Recorder Located

January 12, 2015 – Flight data recorder otherwise called black box mounted on Airbus, A320-200 (Flight QZ8501) that plunged into Java sea has been recovered by local divers.

A total of 162 people died aboard the plane when it crashed into the sea on Friday January 2, 2015.

Divers found the flight data recorder under the wreckage of one of the plane’s wings, head of Indonesia’s search and rescue agency, Bambang Soelistyo said.

“We succeeded in lifting the part of the black box known as the flight data recorder,” Soelistyo, told reporters at a news conference on Monday.

The second black box with the cockpit voice recorder has been located but yet to be retried local authorities have said.

The plane took off from Surabaya, Indonesia enroute Singapore but disappeared from the radar few minutes after take-off.

So far about 40 bodies have been recovered from the scene.
