January 25, 2015 – Stakeholders in the Nigerian Film Industry, otherwise called Nollywood today endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan for the 2015 general elections.
The President met with principle actors in Nollywood at State House, Marina. Those at the meeting include, former President Association of Movie Producers (AMP), Mr. Zeb Ejiro, Mr. Azu Arinze, Patience Ozorkwo, Ini Edo and a host of others.
Speaking at the event, Ejiro said the president has always associated with the industry and that the time to thank the president is now.
“You have been with us during our low moments, you have always been with us, the only time to say thank you to you is now. We know we can do it. It is for each and every one of us to go out there and tell Nigerians what you have done and that we have to bring you back to Aso Rock”, he said.
Also speaking the former President Actors Guild of Nigeria(AGN) Mr. Paul Arinze, said Nigeria has seen what the president has done. “Do not let anything shake you, nobody should shake you, you are coming back here this is just to let you know that we are solidly behind you like everybody has said.
While appreciating their contribution to the economy, President Jonathan promised to work with them as the country shifts from oil to other sectors of the economy.
‘We in government are looking at different areas of diversifying the economy. Oil prices can’t go very high again going by what is going on in the global community, in the US, in the North and Canada and so on. So the oil prices cannot go that high again, so we must find different ways of stabilizing the economy to the extent that even government is spending very little money. Other factors that would be stabilizing the economy will be there”, he said, adding that government will be exporting other things instead of oil.
