Moderate Lifestyle of your Children to Reflect our Cultural Heritage, Parents Told

December 12, 2014 – Commissioner for Education, Lagos State, Mrs. Olayinka Oladunjoye has enjoined parents and guardians to moderate the life style of their children and wards to reflect their cultural heritage.

Oladunjoye who stated this at the 2014 edition of the Lagos State Schools Festival of Arts and Culture stressed the need for parents to teach their children and wards to be proud ambassadors of their rich cultural heritage.

The Commissioner who spoke through Director of Finance and Administration in the ministry, Mrs. Ebun Oladimeji explained that the programme was organized with the aim of inculcating cultural values and ethos in students of state public schools.

The commissioner who said the impressive performance of the students in state schools was indicative of a bright and promising future.

While applauding them for the excellent performance in all the various categories of their presentations, the Commissioner thanked their teachers for mentoring them and ensuring good performances in their presentation.

She advised the students to put into practice, their thoughts and vision for their country with a view to preserving not only the unity of the country but also her rich cultural heritage for the benefit of future generations.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Mrs. Omolara Erogbogbo, who was represented by the Director, Basic Education Services, Mr. Bamidele Sutton noted that the competition was organized to showcase talents among students in public schools adding that it will remain a reference point for all.

The students competed in 12 categories of activities including Cultural Dance, Ewi presentation, Choral Music, Drama Presentation, Dance Drama, Solo performance, Fashion parade, Acrobatic Display, Traditional Musical Instrument, Traditional Dance, Royal Visitation and Poetry.

Eleven year-old Master Kamaldeen Adegbenro of Vetland Junior Grammar School, Agege won the best actor award while thirteen-year old JS 2 student of Ijero Girls High School, Miss Alemu Okikiola was adjudged as the best actress.

Education District IV was adjudged as the overall winner at the festival while certificates were given to the first three in each of the twelve categories
