December 01, 2014 – The streets of Damaturu were thrown into confusion today as the Nigerian military engaged members of the radical Islamic sect, Boko Haram who had invaded the town in a duel that lasted several hours.

We gathered that there was alot of casualties on the side of the insurgents.
Casualty figures recorded in the onslaught is yet to be determined. But Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade said troops backed by Air Force engaged the insurgents who attacked the town.
He said the approach is to secure the civilian population while apprehending or repelling the terrorists.
Speaking on the incident, Special Adviser to the Yobe Governor on Media Mr. Abdulahi Bego said the militants came in through the settlements and attempted to go the heart of the town to take control of the state capital.
“The military engaged them, the security people did not give up and with aerial support, they were able to repel them, they killed quite a lot of them and they fled, the security trail them to the outskirt and kill a lot of them, this evening the military is patrolling the streets and normalcy has returned”, Bego said.
