Gunmen Raid Damasak, Borno, Kill Scores
We gathered that the attackers stormed the town at around 9 am firing shots to scare people away from their homes. Some who ran into the bush told reporters that the gunmen now roam the street unchallenged.
Musa Himma, a resident, told Reuters by phone that some 15 people alone had drowned trying to swim to safety across a river. “Another witness said many had been killed by gunmen who surrounded the town arriving in pick-up trucks and motorcycles”, Reuters said.
We gathered that it was the third major attack in Borno that has left at least 100 people dead, including more than 25 people, mostly fishermen who were killed over the weekend.
