Council of State Confirms Suleiman Abba as Substantive Inspector General of Police

November 4, 2014 – Council of State today confirmed the appointment of Mr. Suleiman Abba as substantive Inspector General of Police (IGP).

The meeting was attended by four former Heads of States including Chief Ernest Shonekan, General Yakubu Gowon and two others.

Briefing newsmen after the meeting, Edo Sate Governnor , Comrade Adams Oshiomhole said the council advised the President who subsequently accepted to confirm the appointment of Mr. Abba as substantive IGP.

He said that the council was of the view that Nigeria needs the cooperation of everybody to be able to secure Nigeria adding that the police cannot do it alone.

“When it comes to security, all of us should be seen as activists”, he said

Speaking on his appointment, Abba described his confirmation as a happy moment which calls for sober reflection.

“It is a moment for sober reflection, reflection on responsibility that I have to work had to meet up with the expectation of Nigeria. Nigerians deserve a safer environment from us. Having reflected on all these we will ensure that we manager our resources to ensure that they are used effectively for the defence of the Nigerian people”, he said.
