Death of Factory Worker: Why Management of Linda Manufacturing Ltd Must Testify Before Lagos House of Assembly
Some senior staff of the company had appeared before the house on Monday but the house was not impressed by their account forcing House Committee on Transportation, Hon. Bisi Yusuf to insist that management staff of the company must appear before it on Tuesday, October 21.
“ The committee is not satisfied with the presentation and explanation given by the senior staff of the company, we want the management of Linda Manufacturing Company to appear before the committee. There are some fundamental questions we need to ask your management , I believe that you are not in a best position to answer them. We are here not to play. We are here for serious business”, he told staff of Linda .
Early October, staff of the company protested to the House over the death of one of their colleagues who died at work. Among their demands were delay in payment of salary as at when due , unwillingness to grant permission to a sick worker even when the company is not going to pay, inadequate medical facilities, indiscriminate termination of staff without benefits , unfavourable working atmospheric condition and unrealistic target for workers, even pregnant women.
According to Hon. Bisi Yuff, the committee had paid a visit to the company and ordered the management to put some things in order.
“The House has visited the company and we informed the management to put some things in place which I believe they ought to have done by now” he told the house.
