Fashola’s Tribunal Begins Mission to Unravel Soldiers Torching BRT Buses

September 15, 2014 – The tribunal set by Governor Babatunde Fashola to investigate causes of the recent army rampage in Lagos over murder of their colleague by one of the buses operated by the Lagos State Bus Service (LAGBUS) has held its inaugural sitting with a call on residents to volunteer useful information that will assist it to carry out the assignment.

The tribunal also vowed to investigate the cause of the accident which made soldiers to set ablaze and vandalise about 9 buses, saying the era of crime committed by unknown soldiers has gone in Nigeria.

Fashola had inaugurated a three-man Tribunal of Inquiry to look into the cause of the incident in order to avoid future re-occurrence.

But speaking at the sitting held at the Lagos State Secretariat, Alausa, the Tribunal Chairman Justice Ebenezer Adebajo (Rtd) appealed to the residents that the tribunal will ensure that all parties involved are given fair hearing.

He urged people to volunteer the useful information, adding that everything would be done to protect their personality and ensure that they are safe from harassment.

In his remarks, Deputy Law Editor of Thisday Newspapers, Mr. Jude Igbanoi said anonymous witness is welcomed; every measure would be explored to ensure that tribunal has a comprehensive report.

The Tribunal Secretary, Ms Oludamola Kesington commented on the term of reference, assuring that all the parties involved will be carried along.

The inaugural meeting was attended by all the stakeholders in the state transportation sector.

It would be recalled that on the 4th July 2014, angry soldiers set ablaze Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses after one of them was killed while riding motorcycle on prohibited BRT lane.
