September 22, 2014 – Acclaimed leader of the radical Islamic sect, Boko Haram is feared to have been killed by the Nigeria military when it launched an attack on Konduga on September 17, top military sources have said.
Boko Haram Leader, Abubakar Shekau Feared Killed in Konduga as 15 Terrorists Surrender
We gathered that he was killed when the terrorist forcefully marched on Konduga in a desperate attempt to capture the village.
The military has on September 17 claimed it killed one of the major commanders of Boko Haram but refused to name the individual concerned.
But according to PRNigeria, an online news magazine, top senior military and intelligent sources say the individual concerned seems to be Abubakar Shekau. “It is getting more certain that the terrorists’ commander who has been mimicking Shekau in those videos is the one killed in Konduga on September 17, 2014.”
The online magazine said the demise of the Boko Haram leader is responsible for the scattering of the sect members in different independent locations in the neighbouring countries, especially in Cameroon noticed in recent days.
It noted that security sources have said the military is in the process of confirming if the dead individual is indeed the person mimicking Shekau in published online videos.
“The process of confirming that the dead body we have is the same as that character who has been posing as Shekau is ongoing. He is definitely a prominent terrorist commander. I don’t want to say anything about this yet please”, the officer said.
Another high ranking military source insisted that the resemblance is too striking to be a coincidence. They cited his facial marks, beards and teeth apart from the recovery by the Nigerian troops of some of the Armoured Vehicles and Hilux jeeps that had featured in previous videos of the prime suspect. The officers assured that the Defence Headquarters will soon address the nation after full investigation of their latest discovery,” the outfit noted.
This is coming even as more terrorists have continued to surrender to the Nigeria Army. At least 15 terrorists have in the last two days surrendered to the Nigerian military.
“Another 10 terrorists yesterday surrendered to troops at Kawuri. In custody for necessary debriefing”, Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade said on Tweeter adding that other captured terrorists have been giving useful information on subsequent plans of the group in an apparent offer to cooperate.
He said the ten surrendered after five terrorist yielded with all their weapons to troops at Konduga and that they are pleading for mercy.
