7 Dead, 16 Rescued as Synagogue Church Collapses in Lagos

September 12, 2014 – Not less than seven people have been confirmed killed when one of the structures under construction at Synagogue Church of All Nations in Ikotun, Lagos collapsed on Friday afternoon.

We gathered that the structure is situated within the premises of the church. As at the time of filling this report at 16 people are said to have been pulled out of the debris even as worshippers and passersby stood behind those on ground to carry out rescue operation.

We gathered that security officers attached to the church are molesting and harassing rescue operators at the scene. We gathered that journalists from Nigerian Television Authority, NTA, and the Guardian have been whisked away by security.

Director of Lagos State Fire Service, Mr. Rasak Fadipe told our correspondent that that the affected structure is a six storey building which is under construction and is situated opposite the church auditorium.
We gathered that most of those affected were construction workers.
