August 14, 2014 – One of the doctors that attended Patrick Sawyer, the American Liberian infected with Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) who died in Nigeria has been infected with the disease.

Minister for Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu who made the revelation at a press conference in Abuja, said the doctor is currently undergoing treatment at the quarantine centre in Lagos.

He said that only 169 people who had secondary contact with Sawyer that were now under surveillance while eight others have been been released, having completed the 21 days of incubation period.

The Minister also said the nurse who had escaped the quarantine center in Lagos and traveled to Enugu state has been returned back to Lagos in company of her husband in a special ambulance.
He said the husband of the Nurse has been quarantined Lagos.
