August 28, 2014 – The Lagos State Government has said that the monthly environmental sanitation exercise will hold on Saturday August 30th, 2014, between the hours of 7AM and 10AM.
Lagos Dedicates August Environmental Sanitation to Ebola, Restricts Movement
While announcing the exercise, Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Tunji Bello said the August edition will be dedicated to massive advocacy campaign and preventive measures to curb Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).
Bello warned interstate bus operators, luxurious bus operators, transport owners and road transport workers association to comply with the restriction of human and vehicular movement between 7.00am-10.00am, stressing that any vehicle caught violating the order would be dealt with appropriately, while passengers in such vehicles would be prosecuted according to the State Environmental Sanitation Laws.
He added that law enforcement officers including officials from LASTMA and KAI have been fully mobilized to enforce the restriction order.
He said that as a responsible and responsive government, the Lagos State Government would continue to be in the fore front of the campaign for a healthier and sustainable environment.
He said that over the years the present administration in the state has continued to educate Lagosians to desist from unhygienic acts like open urination, open defecation, cleaning of the environment and proper waste management.
He said that the presence of Ebola in Lagos is now a wakeup call for all Lagosians to desist from unhygienic acts that could spread the disease.
As a measure to prevent the spread of Ebola Disease, the commissioner urged Lagosians to troop out in large numbers and actively participate in the statewide exercise, stressing that efforts should be further concentrated on the cleaning of drains, canals and fumigation of the environment, in order to completely eliminate the disease in the state.
