Shops owned by filmmakers and marketers under lock and keys in Idumota, Lagos, Nigeria Monday morning

August 11, 2014 – Yoruba Film and Video Producers and Marketers Association of Nigeria (YOVIFPMAN) has relocated its secretariat and members from Idumota, Lagos where it has been doing business since inception of the Nigerian Film Industry in the early 90s.

The marketers are now at Arena, situated in on the left while approaching Oshodi from Ikeja.

The Arena is managed by wives of officers in the Ikeja Military Cantonment and it has been adjudged as a more befitting abode for the filmmakers and marketers.

YOVIFPMAN relocated almost five years after a brother association, the Film and Video Producers and Marketers Association of Nigeria(FVPMAN), the English arm relocated from 109 Nnamdi Azikiwe where the association then operating under one name used as secretariat.

When our correspondent visited, Idumota on Monday, the shops occupied by major marketers were under lock and key. The situation at the secretariat was not different. Our correspondent reported that the whole floor which once bubbled with life showed no sign of any inhabitant.

One of the retail traders, Odunayo Komolafe told our correspondent that everything is now being done at the Arena, Oshodi and directed our correspondent to all inquiries to the area.

Meanwhile the whole complex occupied by the marketers now looks hollow and likely to impact negatively on the finances of landlords in the area.
