Planet of the Apes Takes Top Spot, The Purge: The Anarchy Offers More Rewards

July 20, 2014 – Dawn of the Planet of the Apes retained the top spot at the US Box Office at the weekend even when overall sales dropped to $36 million at the weekend.

The Purge: The Anarchy, a new film just hitting the box office was second on the chart. Put together by Universal Pictures, the film made $28.369 million from the 2, 805 cinemas where it was exhibited in the US. Ironically, it emerged the greatest flick of the week after returning almost $20 million to the producers as profit.
The Purge: The Anarchy is a small budget film put together with the sum of $9 million.

Planes: Fire & Rescue a new film put together by Buena Vista made it to the third position on the chart after making $18 million from the 3, 826 film viewing centres where it was exhibited in the US.

At number 4 is Sex Tape, another new film just hitting the box office . A production of Sonny Pictures, the film made $15 million after touring 3,062 film viewing centres in the US to hit the fourth spot on the chart.

Transformers: Age of Extinction put together by Paramount Pictures emerged the fifth most patronized movie at the weekend when sales hit an all-time low of $10 million.

Other new films that made appearance at the US box office at the weekend are Persecuted, Wish I Was Here, I Origins, There’s No Place Like Utopia, Mood Indigo, A Five Star Life and Alive Inside. Although they were able to make it into the top 50 list, they however fell below the $1 million mark in cumulative sales.
