July 29, 2014 – The Ministry of Defence has refuted media reports that four soldiers and 50 civilians were killed when the radical Islamic sect invaded Garkida town in Adamawa on Sunday.
Defence Headquarters however confirmed the Garkida attack but said on its official tweeter page that no house or church was burnt during the attack and that troops succeeded in repelling the attack.
In three tweets, the Defence HQ also confirmed that a police station was burnt by the militants during the attack but that only two soldiers lost their lives during the onslaught, adding said that more troops have been deployed to the area to forestall further attack.
“No House or Church was burnt in Garkida, by terrorists as reported, Troops succeeded in repelling attack on the town on Sunday. Although some of the attackers died and a police station burnt, no civilian was killed. Two soldiers died in the attack, more troops have been deployed to forestall any further attack on the area”, the Defence HQ said.
