July 13, 2014 – The German national team on Sunday emerged winner of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil beating Argentina 1:0.

The tension-soaked match ended goalless in 90 minutes but the German machine gained the upper hand in the 112 minutes through a superb strike by Mario Goetz in box 18 which beat the German goal keeper.

The win is historic, making it the first time a European team will be winning the world cup on American soil. Overall, the Germans had 10 shots at goal while Argentina had 9. The Germans also committed more fouls, 20 to 16 committed by Argentina.
