July 8, 2014 – President Goodluck Jonathan, all the former Heads of State, governors and service chiefs came out from the Council of State’s meeting on Tuesday with one word that the over 200 girls abducted by the radical Islamic sect Boko Haram must return home safe and alive.

The girls were abducted 82 days ago from the Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State.

The meeting was attended by all the former head of states and all the governors but Mohammadu Buhari and the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, during which the President took his time to brief those in attendance on security situation in the country.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Godswill Akpabio said the issue is not whether Nigeria is capable of rescuing the girls but how to bring them home alive.

He said efforts are being made to rescue the girls and that very soon Nigerians will have the good news and called on Nigerians to be patient with the Federal Government.

Also speaking after the meeting, Edo State Governor, Mr. Adams Oshiomole said called on politicians to be more sensitive to the issue of national security, warning of the need to put aside political consideration, noting that Nigeria must survive before there will be any political consideration.

While calling on Nigerians to be united in fighting terrorism he warned religious leaders to refrain from making inflammatory statements.

Meanwhile, self-confessed Boko Haram member who has left the fold told BBC that the abducted girls are in good state of health. “They don’t have problem, some of them believe in Islam, some said they will not join Islam”, he told BBC.

He said the group does not kill women and children except to kill when caught in crossfire.
