July 30, 2014 – The Nigerian security forces have arrested a 10 year old female bomber during a regular stop and check operation in the northern city of Kano with explosives strapped around her waist.

While confirming the incident, Director General National Orientation Agency (NOA) Mr. Mike Omeri said that Katsina state, security forces arrested three suspects believed to be members of the armed group Boko Haram, including an underage girl with explosives in her body.

According to him, the “10 year old…was discovered to have been strapped with an explosive belt,” Omeri said, adding that the two other suspects were a man and an 18-year old girl who attempted to flee from authorities at a checkpoint. He also confirmed that a suicide bomber earlier on at about 2:30 PM hit the Kano State Polytechnic.

Earlier 13 people were confirmed killed and 35 injured when two mosques in Yobe state were bombed on Tuesday night at the close of Eid al-Fitr, the Muslim holiday marking end of Ramadan.
