What would have been a major disaster was averted in Imo State on Sunday morning when two devices suspected to be an Improvised Explosive Device were uncovered at Winners Chapel on Port Harcourt, Owerri Road, Imo State.

Speaking on the incident, Commissioner of Police in the state, Abdulmajid Ali said the command was alerted about the two IEDs mounted on refrigerator compressors in the early hours of the morning when worshippers were streaming to the church.
He said the informant saw the objects and was not comfortable with them hence he had to inform the police.
“We were alerted that some devices were seen outside the church and immediately we deployed our anti-bomb squad.We are happy that the squad immediately detonated the bombs on arrival and six persons have been arrested so far,” he said.
Ali said the command would do everything possible to unravel the perpetrators of the act.
He urged the people to go about their normal activities as the two IEDs have been detonated.
The incident forced the security forces to condone off the area.
Imo Stat Governors, Owelle Rochas Okorocha who visited the scene commended the security forces for averting what would have been a major disaster.
