Minister of Police Affairs, Alhaji Abdul Jelili Adesiyan, has condemned the Osun State chapter of All Progressive Congress (APC) over the destruction of campaign billboards of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the August 9 election, Otunba Iyiola Omisore, in some strategic places within the state.

In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Wale Akinola, the minister described the destruction of Omisore’s campaign billboards as an indication of political immaturity among the leaders of APC.

He stressed that if Argebesola was sure of his victory at the poll based on his pseudo achievements, he wouldn’t have ordered his men to damage the billboards and mutilate campaign posters of his supposed political opponents.

“It has been brought to our notice that some members of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State have started destroying the campaign billboards of Otunba Iyiola Omisore, ahead of the August 9 gubernatorial election. The hoodlums vandalized Omisore’s billboards at Oke Oniti, Ogo Oluwa and some strategic areas within Osogbo, the state capital.

“This is a condemnable act, it is an act of political immaturity. If the billboards of Aregbesola should be allowed to stay in every nook and cranny of the state, I see no reason the APC in the state should destroy and mutilate the campaign billboards of Otunba Iyiola Omisore.

“The act is a testimony and admission of political failure of the ruling APC because the destruction of campaign billboards of opponent will not guarantee license for Aregbesola to win the election, rather, it further exposes his ineptitude and his desperation to remain in power at all cost. When Aregbesola was campaigning in 2007, the former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, did not order the destruction of his campaign billboards neither did any of PDP member mutilate his campaign posters. But the damage of Omisore’s billboards is an indication that APC is jittery ahead of the decisive election.

Adesiyan, however, reinstated that no amount of intimidation and mutilation of posters would stop the PDP candidate, Senator Omisore from winning the August 9 gubernatorial election, adding that the PDP was committed to bring back the lost glory to the people of the state.

According to him, “APC should be reminded that the destruction or mutilation of campaign posters of Senator Iyiola Omisore is a criminal offence and they should desist from it immediately or be ready to face the wrath of law.”
