The Lagos State Chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, (NUJ) has concluded plans to picket head office of Tell magazine, situated on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to force management of the organisation to pay all salary arrears owed employees working in the organisation.
NUJ to Picket Tell Magazine over Nine Months Unpaid Salaries
Congress was of the view that the picketing which comes up in July 15 will be done in an unprecedented manner to force the management to pay salary arrears
We gathered that Tell magazine has not been able to pay staff salaries in the past nine months even when paid adverts have multiplied in the magazine from time to time.
The NUJ took the decision during a special congress held at the two storey Guest House under construction in Awofeso Street, Shomolu, Lagos. The congress was presided by Chairman of the Lagos State Council, Mr. Deji Elumoye.
The congress called on journalists who are currently being owed salaries by their media outfit to speak out to enable the union act in their behalf.
The congress was informed that the management of Vanguard Newspapers has decided to raise salaries of staff by 25 percent with a pledge for a new raze in 2015 even without involvement of the union once ongoing expansion work is completed in Delta State.
On State of the Nation, congress called on the military to do their job to tackle the nation’s security problem and halt attack on the media.
