June 10, 2014 – The burial rites for Iconic Filmmaker, Amaka Igwe who passed on April 28, 2014, commenced on Monday with service of songs at Havens Events Centre, GRA, Lagos.

Igwe’s corpse was however not present at the event, except her husband Charles Igwe and her three children. A second service of songs will be held in Opara Square, Enugu State on Thursday June 12, followed by her final burial on Friday June 13, in Imo State.

The event was well attended by those who matter in entertainment in Nigeria.
The include former Chairman, Nigerian Film Corporation, Chief Eddie Ugbomah, former President Association of Movie Producers, Mr. Zeb Ejiro, former President African Movie Academy Award, Mrs. Peace Anyiam Osigwe, Tony Akposeri, Rachael Oniga, Oduan Imasuem, Director General Centre for Women Development, Mrs. Onyeka Onwenu, Hon. Abike Daribi, Ali Baba and host of others.

Speaking at the ceremony, Pastor Henry Babalola described the late filmmaker as a good person who used her talents for public good and assisted many irrespective of age to achieve their dreams in life. According to him, one statement that was constant with the filmmaker while she was alive was what would you be remembered for when you are gone.

He explained that the late filmmaker was of the view that those endowed with specific talents owe it a responsibility to put it to use for personal benefit and public good.

Born 51 years, ago, Amaka Igwe was educated at the University of Ile-Ife where she bagged a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and Religious Studies before proceeding to the University of Ibadan for her Masters in Library and Information Services.

She is credited for writing some scripts for the Ojo Ladipo Theatre, the New Masquerade before she wrote Checkmates, Fuji House of Commotion and dozens of other movies. She is survived by grandmother, a husband and three children.
