The Lagos State Government has arrested 10 students of the Lagos State University (LASU) for protesting increment in tuition fee.
Fashola Arrests, Charges 10 Students over LASU Protest
Recall that students of LASU on Tuesday embarked on protest in Lagos and were marching to Alausa, the seat of government to register their displeasure of the way and manner the state government was handling the issue when they were disbanded by the Nigerian Police Force.
President of Student Union, LASU, Mr. Nurudeem Yusuf told journalists in Lagos that the students were arrested after the peaceful protest by members of the Nigerian Police Force. He said some of the students were detained at Area F and Akinpelu Police Station, Oshodi.
Speaking to our correspondent in Lagos, Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, Ms. Ngozi Braide said the students were arrested for embarking on violent protest and for threatening to burn down Oshodi.
Another student who confirmed the incident said eight students were arrested. He gave the names as Olamide Bolarinwa, Oludare Olayinka, Victoria Oni, Timilehin Fatukasi, Babatunde Bolarinwa, Taiwo Ajaye, Olatimihan Taiwo and Segun Akani.
We gathered that the eight have been charged before an Ikeja High Court.
