Founding Director General, Lagos State Records and Archives Bureau(LASRAB) Mr. Rafiu Bolaji Uthman is dead. He was 56. He died today, Friday in an unknown hospital in Lagos. He has since been buried.

While confirming the report, an information officer in the Lagos State Government told our correspondent that Uthman died of complication arising from eye operation he went through in India. He is said to have returned to Lagos prematurely to attend to the wedding arrangement of the daughter. The long flight from India is said to have complicated his condition. He died at the Lagos State University Hospital(LASUTH). Uthman lost his wife last year.

We gathered that the Lagos State Governor visited him to personally see how he is fairing after returning from medical trip abroad.

Born August 28, 1957, Uthman bagged a B.A degree in Education/History from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1996 and a Master degree in History and Diplomatic Studies from the University of Lagos, UNILAG(2000). His other qualifications are NCE in History and Geography, Advanced Diploma in Journalism from Times Journalism Institute and certificates in advanced writing from Nigerian Institute of Journalism(NIJ).

Until his death, he was pursuing a doctorate degree at the Lagos State University, Ojo.He is a member of Network of Nigerian Historians (NNH), Nigerian Union of Journalists(NUJ) and Nigerian Institute of Public Relations(NIPR). He joined Lagos State civil service in 1983 as information officer.
