Jonathan Visits Chibok, as Brig.Gen. Ibrahim Replaces Mohammed as GOC

President Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria will on Friday, 16th, May visit Chibok, Borno State, where more than 200 girls, writing examination in Government Girls Secondary School were kidnapped by the dread Islamic sect, Boko Haram.

The visit is coming just about a month after the girls were abducted by the Islamic warriors even as his delay in vising has drawn criticism from Nigerians and the Borno State Government in particular.

It is also coming just few days after Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Kenneth Minimah, approved the immediate removal of the General Officer Commanding the 7th Infantry Division, Major General Ahmadu Mohammed, who was shot following rebellion in the unit. Meanwhile Brig. Gen MY Ibrahim is said to have been appointed in acting capacity since the position was meant to be occupied by a major general.

The Director of Defence Information, Major Gen Chris Olukolade has confirmed the removal of Mohammed and his replacement with Brig. Gen Ibrahim.

The Nigerian President has already sent his request to extend emergency rule in the three northeastern states, Adamawa, Borno and Yobe where the insurgent has established itself to the National Assembly. The House of Assembly has approved the extension for another six months. The Senate is yet to follow suit.
