Fashola to Boko Haram: ‘Please Release our Girls’

The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola on Tuesday pleaded passionately with the dread Islamic Sect, Boko Haram, to release over 200 girls abducted from Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State some 43 days ago.

The governor who made the plea in his short address at an occasion to mark, Children’s’ Day in Lagos explained that only adults and not the abducted children that are capable of acceding to the needs of sect, adding that children have no role to play in issues that agitate the minds of Boko Haram.

“I want to again plead passionately, very deeply and with every strength that I can muster with these people, they should release the children so that the adult can engage and solve whatever problems they have”, he pleaded.

The governor who addressed a gathering of young school lads, all dressed in red, with banners urging government to bring back their friends, also took his time to relate with the children one-on-one in very close encounter.

At another event, Coordinator, Women for Peace and Justice, Hajia Bintu-Fatima Tinubu called on the nation to engage in fervent prayers and commit the abducted children to God for safe release of the children and an enduring peace in Nigeria.

“From the benefit of history, no nation has become great in an atmosphere of insecurity in the mold of the one currently besetting our dear country, Nigeria”, she said and appealed to government to integrate rapid safety measures and mechanism to ensure that the innocent girls return safely to their parents and in the process foster a lasting solution to what she described as barbaric humdrum obstructing the progress of Nigeria as a nation.
