CSNAC Petitions Fashola, Police over Armed Robbery, Rape in Lagos State
Civil Society Network Against Corruption (CSNAC) has petitioned Nigerian Police Force (NPF) and the Lagos State government over incessant reports of armed robbery and rape by armed gangs such as Akala Boys and the Toheeb Gang in Mushin Area of Lagos State.
In the petition, CSNAC said the latest of the attacks occurred on morning of Monday 21st of April at around 12:00 Noon and lasted seven (7) long hours without an interference or challenge from officers of the Alakara Police Station at the Mushin area of Lagos State or the Rapid Response Squad (RRS).
“According to the accounts of residents of the area, officer of the Station were alerted on the operations of the armed robbers but were utterly shocked by the unresponsive attitude of the police force. To their bewilderment, the police officers that did arrive at the scene at about 7am, while the robbers were still in operation, did nothing to stop further robbery or arrest the marauders.
In the petition, Chairman of the group, Olanrewaju Suraju said the unresponsive and inactive nature of the Alakara Police command is reported to have been a recurring decimal in previous similar armed robbery operations involving invasion of homes and robbing of occupants; house – to – house, raping of vulnerable female victims (married and single), obtaining valuable possessions and destruction of other possessions such as motor vehicles.
The group called for thorough investigation into the culpability or operational failure of officers of the Alakara Police Station and RRS, as evident in their unresponsive and compromising nature in the discharge of their primary duty of protecting lives and properties of Nigerians under their jurisdiction.
