The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has directed its rank and file to shot any criminal gang in the Lagos Island found to be parading the streets with arms and ammunition.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Lion Building, Oluwole Edger gave the shoot on sight order after an emergency meeting with chairman of Lagos Island East Local Government, Hon Kamal Salau Bashua and all the security outfit operating in the area and traditional rulers.
In a statement, Edger said the order became necessary to restore peace and order within the council area adding that the violence that marred the Easter period was condemnable and retrogressive to the relative peace enjoyed over the last two years saying security operatives are combat ready to prevent recurrence.
Salau-Bashua lamented that any form of violence on Lagos Island portends great danger to the economic activities since major businesses are located in the area. He said violence is capable of sending wrong signals on peaceful coexistence in the state.
On his part the Area Commander, Area Command, Oluwole Edger warned criminals and hoodlums to steer clear of the island noting his men have renewed commitments to stop violence in any part of the island.
He called on all doing business in the island to alert security operatives on suspicious movements and activities in order to prevent breakdown of law and order in the council area.
In attendance during the emergency security council meeting were the Council Chairman, police chiefs, Traditional rulers, Community Development Associations, neighborhood watchers and members of the Road Transport unions.
