Police Confirm 72 Dead, 124 Injured in Nyanya Bombing

The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) on Monday, confirmed that 71 people were killed and 124 others injured when terrorists believed to members of the dread Boko Haram sect detonated two Improvised Explosive Devices(IEDs) at Nyanya Bus Park in Abuja, Nigeria.

Spokesperson for the NPF, Mr. Frank Mba who visited the park told journalists that apart from the injured, 16 luxury buses were damaged while 24 mini buses were burnt beyond repairs.

He said materials of high evidential value have been recovered from the scene and appealed to Nigerians for patience and understanding as security forces swing into action. He said the Inspector General of Police(IGP) Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar has placed his men on red alert.

Even the flyover-bridge just by the park was not spared in the attack. It was visibly devastated, pulling down the protective rails. Speaking at the scene of the incident, President Goodluck Jonathan condemned it, describing it as dastard act. He however assured Nigerians that the onslaught of Boko Haram will soon be a thing of the past.

President of the Senate, Senator David Mark was also swift in condemning the explosion.

“What has happened is criminal, it shows the level of depravity we have gone”, Minister for Information, Mr. Labaran Maku said on the incident wondering why there is always an attack each there is something good to cheer about the country.

“Why is it that it is any time we have good news that we have this bombing, we must work together to for peace and unity”, he said.
