At least 6 people were injured Thursday morning when a two storey building collapsed in Oworonsoki area of Lagos State, Nigeria.

According to Public Relations Officer, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Lagos State, Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, the building collapsed at 11 AM at Alonge Street Off Surulere Agree Street, Oworonsoki, Lagos.

He said the injured were trapped when the building collapsed and that they were all rescued alive. Among those rescued were four teenagers between the ages of 10 and 16 years. They include Master Ahungbe(12), Jimoh Adebi(13) and Moses Atokiti(15).

Farinloye said those injured have been taken to Folabi Medical Centre, Oworonsoki for medical attention while the two adults injured have been transferred to Gbagada General Hospital for medical attention.

He attributed the successful rescue operation of those involved to prompt response by NEMA, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency(LASEMA) Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corpse (NSCDC) and the Nigerian Police Force(NPF) and the Lagos State Building Control Agency.

Meanwhile properties worth several millions of Naira were destroyed on Thursday following a fire outbreak at Mammy Market, Ikeja Military Cantonment. We gathered that both the state and federal fire service are currently battling to contain the inferno as at the time of filing this report.
