At least 20 applicants into the Lagos Home Ownership Scheme(Lagos HOMS) failed to meet up with mandatory deposit of 30 percent just as the Lagos State Government on Monday presented keys to 11 who have successfully completed the process for owning houses in the scheme.

Prices of the Lagos HOMS range from N4.2 million for a room and parlour and N4.10 million to N9.08 million for one bedroom flat depending on the area; a two bedroom flat ranged from N6.22 million to N18.61 million in Gbagada while a three bedroom flat sold for N9.96 million at Hon. Shotomiwa Estate Igbogbo, Ikorodu and N32.53 million in Gbagada Phase II.

Those who received the keys were among the 31 applicants that emerged from the last raffle draw and they have been able to pay the mandatory 30 percent deposit. They will however pay the remaining 9.5 percent for the next 10 years.

Those who received the keys are Ajayi Omotayo Jubril, Mrs. Ganiyat Dolapo, Gnenga Owolabi, Madedo Torisetuju Ejiroghene, Chkwuneta John Paul, Pibeiam Kanayo, Ibiam Darlington, Yetunde Oluwaseun, Abdulmalik Rukiyat, and Ademola Otujoko.
They all got their homes in Shita, Surulere and Iloro, Agege, Lagos.

Speaking in behalf of his colleagues, Amos Ikime who was allotted a house in Shita, said he came across the scheme on social network adding that he heard about the application in newspaper.

He said he did it applied online and that the process was easy and seamless. “I did not visit any office,I did not meet anyone”, he said adding that he was in the office during the draw and watch it live.

“I was elated when my name was picked for shita. I had my reservation because my trust in the system not absolute, this scheme reinvigorated me”, he said adding that he now believes in the efficacy of the Lagos HOMS.

While speaking, Fashola described the scheme as a modest start with 31 applications, adding that the remaining 169 will be added to other 200 applicants for a raffle draw on Friday.

“People must believe in this system”, he said adding that success of the scheme shows that the future is not lost.
