Lebanese Community Donates Truck, N80 Million to LSSTF
He spoke just as the Lebanese Community, comprising the Chagori brothers in Nigeria donated N80 million and trucks worth N20 million to the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, LSSTF, to improve
security in the state.
Fashola said that the tragedy of Nigeria is the debate surrounding accountability of $20 or $10 billion.
“Ordinary citizens are contributing to fund the responsibility of government. It hurts me because one could only wonder and imagine what $10 billion will do for the police. What it will do in terms of vehicles, trucks and equipments? We hope that things get better.
“The issue of account for that money must be resolved publicly in the interest of the citizens of this great country. And it is a debate that all of us must participate in. peacefully, we will resolve it whether $20 or $10 billion, we must know where that money ended up. And everyone who has duty including the minister for Petroleum must speak up at the moment now. We want to know what happen to that money.
Fashola commended the Lebanese community for the initiative, stressing that the donation will form an important block in the security architecture that the state is building.”
“They must be interested in their own security. It is not something that someone gives to them. It is what they must embrace. Lagos is safe but it doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t be security conscious. The first security is self protection and safety consciousness. When we show concern for this, it portrays the value that we place on safety.”
Fashola further urged private organizations in the state to install CCTV cameras in their companies. “This is because we cannot be everywhere. And the job of security requires that we get it right always.”
Earlier, Consul General of Lebanon, Demas Haddad explained that the donation was made in the name of the Lebanese business community. And it is to further appreciate Nigeria. This country has allowed our Lebanese citizens to establish business which has afforded them the opportunity to contribute to the country’s economy.
“The donation helped us to show appreciation to the Lagos state government’s effort to ensure that the state is well secured. We hope that this contribution will further boost the provision of security apparatus in the state.”
