The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola said on Monday that the state has activated about 1,200 surveillance cameras in strategic places across the Lagos metropolis.

Fashola made the revelation during a routine inspection of the Lagos Control and Command Centre in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos. He said the state government intends to deploy another 1000 units to the streets for effective surveillance of the state.

The governor said the cameras include those deployed by the Federal Government through ZTE. He said Lagos currently has 3.66 base stations powered by CDMA technology with 3.88 microwave links.

He explained that the microwave links has trunk telephony capacity, normal telephony capacity similar to what any CDMA operator would deploy and networks with 3G data capabilities.

He said that the existing camera and telephony infrastructure has the capacity to carry 100,000 subscribers. He said the state government has taken ownership of all infrastructures in the pool of surveillance camera adding that it currently fuels 66 base stations and maintains all stations.
