Chairman of the House committee investigating the impasse, Hon. Adebayo Adeyeye also promised to add another N250, 00O bringing the total sum of the money to N1.275 million.
Speaking during the public hearing, Adeyeye said “the Lagos State House of Assembly is committed to its vision of being the best parliament in the African sub-region and as such will do everything within its power to defend the 1999 constitution as amended”, he said adding that the constitution in chapter 4 section 34, states clearly that ‘every individual is entitled to respect for the dignity of his person and that no person should be subjected to torture or to inhuman or degrading treatment.
“No Nigerian, no matter his offence deserves to be treated in this manner, this is Lagos, the centre of Excellence, we will not condone any act of man in-humanity to man’’ he stated.
Referring to the video which went viral on the internet, Adeyeye said it is barbaric, inhuman and condemnable in its entirety. He reiterated that the House will leave no stone on turn to get justice for the two women in question.
“Nobody is here to witch-hunt or castigate anyone but how to unravel the mystery.”
The President of Women Arise for Change Initiative, Dr. Joel Odumakin, submitted that they are hopeful that “with the help of the Lagos State House of Assembly that has taken up the gauntlet, that reprieve is imminent, and that this processing will not be consigned to the trashcan of unsolved abuses, and that hopefully, this will spur other State Government and indeed the government at the centre to act with conciseness and purpose for the Nigerian people”.
She also informed the House that the youngest of the women was unconfirmed dead while the father relocated to another area in Ejigbo.
Odumakin insisted that she wants the matter to serve as a deterrent to others so that anywhere those women are, they can be rest assured that some people stood for their justice, because justice delayed is justice denied.
The spokesperson for the Police Force , the DPO of the area , Mr. Inoma –Abbey, claimed that the gruesome matter came to his notice 1st of December 2013 by a friend and pleaded that the public should help with any useful information that could lead to the arrest of the culprits.
In his defence for lukewarmness on the issue, Chairman Ejigbo Local Council Development, Mr. Kehinde Bamgbetan, claimed he has done a lot of investigations and discussions on-line with people who have interest in the matter.
